I've been waiting and waiting for an official release of this manga since I heard about it years ago. I never thought I'd see the day, but Viz has finally taken the opportunity to appreciate the fans and give them what they want - And they delivered with style!
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME (PART 1)
Type: Action
Author: Akira Himekawa
What Is It?
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was a video game of the slowly-growing franchise. While its Nintendo 64 graphics don't measure up to today's gaming standards, the story is one that will not soon be forgotten. The classic story of a hero in the making who must stop an evil from spreading. The series is one which involves magic and a medieval age, so it should be good for those RPG fans out there. Basically, the manga is like taking the game storyline, and making it 10 times awesomer.
Chapters
The manga is split into two separate sagas; Child, and Adult. These make sense if you know Ocarina Of Time. The chapters in this volume are as followed;
CHILD SAGA
Chapter 1: The Great Deku Tree Incident
Chapter 2: Link's Adventure Begins
Chapter 3: The Mystery Of The Triforce
Chapter 4: The Search For The Spiritual Stone Of Fire
Chapter 5: Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly
Chapter 6: The Hero Of Time Is Born
ADULT SAGA
Chapter 1: Sword Of Legend: The Master Sword
Chapter 2: The Sage Of The Forest: Saria
Chapter 3: And Old And Beloved Friend
Chapter 4: Link VS Link
Translation
The translation, as expected from Viz, is very well done. Being under the VizKids label, I feared it might become a simplified version made for a much younger audience, but in reality it seems pretty intact. If anything, there's no visible swearing, which I recall there being a little bit of in a fan translation. But I think it works without it.
Extras
In between chapters, there's about three different sketches of concept art made by the author before making the manga. Not much, but it's nice to see some behind-the-scenes stuff like that.
Sequel?
Being the fact that this is a two-part manga series, the next one is indeed its sequel. Learn more about it Here when it becomes available to read!
Worth It?
If you're a Zelda fan, or are interested in learning a bit of the Zelda series, it's a must-have. It's available at the standard manga price, so check it out!
Overall
Overall, promising, very promising. That's all there is to it.
