DVD Review - Dragonball Z: First Strike

A Dragonball Z movie set.

Dragonball Z: First Strike
Type: Movie
Special: Set

What Is It?

This set is great for a collector of Dragonball Z films. It features the first three (Dead Zone, The World Strongest, and Tree Of Might) for a reasonable price, I bought mine for 12 dollars. Not to say it's always this price, but you may be lucky to find it that cheap.

Dead Zone is a movie about a cruel little being known as Garlic Jr., who seeks revenge against Kami for taking the title of guardian of the Earth away from his father, Garlic. (This movie is labeled as the "Ultimate Uncut Edition")

The World Strongest is about Dr. Wheelo, an evil scientist whose brain resides in a machine. He wishes to seek out the strongest warrior in the world, and use their body as his own.

Tree Of Might is about a lowly Saiyan named Turles who plants a giant tree on Earth which sucks the life out of the Earth itself.

Quality

Quality is excellent. It's not yet in the style of the current "Digitally Remastered" DVD boxsets, which is considered a good thing. The audio is also top-notch.

Features

All of them are good beginner films, and in addition to being great quality, they have redubbed audio by the current FUNimation voice cast. Traditionally, it also features the original Japanese audio, with subtitles. Although the second and third movies only feature Japanese translated subtitles, the first also features subtitles belonging to the English audio.

Extras

None of these DVD's really have any extras, other than a few trailers for other FUNimation products. However, the first one features commentary.

Worth It?

Well, if you're a fan of the FUNimation cast, you might like to hear their work on these films. Plus if it's cheap, it's definitely worth buying.

Related Products

There is another boxset similar to this, which is called "Broly: Triple Threat." As the title suggests, it features the three Dragonball Z movies starring Broly. I haven't seen it for myself, but if it's anything like this one, it's worth checking out.

Overall

If you're a collector of Dragonball Z films, or just love hearing the work by FUNimation, check it out. You won't be sorry!
