Let us turn back the clock of time, and look at an age that has long passed… It was an age forgotten by time itself. An age where magic, contrary to what we know now, existed. In the modern age we've known magic only by fiction, but the truth is, it was once a reality - In the forgotten time…
More than 5000 years ago existed a race of humans known as the Sages. Unlike humans these days, the Sages were a peaceful race who lived in an orderly fashion. Considerably primitive to us, but they were far more sophisticated than most humans would be now. Their home planet was mostly barren, left only with a few small villages close to one another. This time was simple, one that may be difficult to accept as a reality, but it was in a time early on in the existence of the universe. Thus, it can be speculated that after much time had passed, something happened to change this peaceful, magical world into a weak and mortal one. How and why is not important now, only know that there is but one protagonist to look out for…
"Afkiiiins!!" A young girl shouted out to her friend, someone who she has known for 8 of the 9 years she's existed. This young girl always wore a beautifully crafted pink dress, which complimented her long, silvery hair and bright blue eyes. She was young, but loved by many for her innocence. And though she doesn't enjoy being around many boys, there is one whom she likes spending time with - Afkins Saki. "Over here, Ashlin! Wah-hoooo!!" A young boy shouted as he swooped down to the ground, riding on the back of a griffin, a bird-like creature known now as a myth. This boy was Afkins. He was only a year older than Ashlin, and he surely acted immature for his age. He wore dark blue clothes much like his father, a simple pair of pants and sleeveless shirt. Unlike Ashlin - who came from royalty, as noted by her well crafted clothing - Afkins came from a simple family. You might call them peasants, but they were not poor, just middle-class.
As Afkins hopped off of the griffin he rode in on, Ashlin couldn't help but stare at the massive beast. "Are you crazy, why are you riding that wild thing?!" She exclaimed, unable to help her fear. Afkins just looked at her curiously, "What's wrong? He's actually really gentle, not what I expected from a wild animal." Ashlin tried to calm down but was still upset, simply for his safety. "Afkins, if you take risks, you're going to get hurt…" Afkins just shook his head in disbelief of her fear. "Yeah, but taking risks won't kill you though, it makes you willing to take on greater challenges someday. That's what my dad always says." Ashlin couldn't argue with her best friend, so she simply sighed. "I.. don't know…"
Afkins motioned her to come forward, "C'mon, pet him, he's won't bite." As he said this, the griffin knelled down closer to her, allowing her to pet it. "O-Okay…" As Ashlin slowly eased closer to it and reached her hand out, suddenly the griffin stands up quickly and lets out a screech of pain which frightened them both. The griffin ran away, and then spread its wings to fly off into the distance, almost out of sight instantly. "Whoa… What happened?" Afkins thought out loud as he blinked. "I think he was just attacked… I could sense a presence of energy. But who shot it?" As she looked around, behind them stood a pair of twin boys just a little older than them, laughing cruelly. They both wore brown Junior Sage robes, so it was natural to assume they were coming home from school. Both had raggedy dark brown hair, but one wearing glasses.
"Stupid beast. Good riddance, I say." The one wearing glasses said coldly as he gave them both a nasty glare followed by a grin. Ashlin stood up at looking at him, "Grensi! How could you say such a thing?! Afkins assured me he was safe.. Who do you think you are, harming an innocent creature?!" The boy simply just frowned and shook his head, "Nevermind, you wouldn't understand. See you at school. Come on, Gasai." He ended saying to his brother, as they both just walked back home. Ashlin crossed her arms looking down, "Those two are really mean… I wish someone would do something about them." Afkins stood by her and smiled, "It's okay, I don't think he harmed the griffin enough to scare him away for good." Ashlin just sighed, not knowing what to think…
This was when peace was meant to disappear. All because of them…
