Anime OQ

Anime OQ was originally known as Anime Quest, an RPG I made to test the capabilities of RPG Maker 2003, which I was curious about getting used to using. However, for added fun, I put in a story along with it. Each of the three stories have their own particular style, the first one being simple and heroic, second is more emotional and dramatic, and the third is like a love story. I enjoy how these looked, and look forward to writing them again someday.

For those wondering about the title, the 'Anime' part is due to the fact that the designs and graphics used in RPG Maker 2003, of course, looked like they came from various anime. OQ is a little harder to explain - During the sequel, I wanted a better title and came up with a quote to go with the series, which was;

  • Any
  • Neglected
  • Intelligence
  • May
  • Endanger
  • Our
  • Quest

So, as you can see, the title is a bit silly… But I thought it was a catchy title. And keeps people wondering, heheh. The following tells of the game series.

Anime Quest

This story took place in medieval times, starring an 18 year old boy named Hiro who was exploring a forest one day, where he meets a female angel named Angel who tells him he is destined to stop a demon king from taking over the world. He soon meets a cowardly thief named Arib, female mage named Amy, and male pirate-mage named Kugi, who all wish to aid him. The villain, Jinkun, was defeated in the end, thanks to the combined power of magic extracted from those Hiro met on his journey.

The game was one of my most favorite projects, being so simple, and yet very original. Sadly, this game never made it out to the public. And sometime later after the sequel, I also lost both of those games. Luckily, though, my friend HallowedSouls who I shared the game with to test it out, still had it and sent it to me. However, the sequel is, sadly, gone forever. Although, I do have a chance to remake the original, and start over the sequel from scratch.

The game was made sometime in 2005, which, in the same year, came its sequel, which started the 'Anime OQ' title.

Anime Quest 2: Anime OQ

Following shortly after the first game, Hiro and his friends live on a small island Hiro once lived on. Sadly, I no longer have this game, I lost this and the first game due to some computer troubles back then. Luckily my friend HallowedSouls had the first game since he still had it from testing it out. However, the second game never made it out to anyone else… Due to how many other things have happened since then, and so many projects have gone around, I no longer even remember what happened in the sequel, but I do know what I included.

An originally pointless addition to the sequel was a mini boss you fought halfway through the game. He was a dark counterpart of Hiro, who worked for Jinkun. Additionally, I believe something happened to Hiro which separated him from the group (similarly to something from the first game), which led him to being teamed up with different teammates. One of them was Anna, a young Ninja girl who was on her own personal quest. As well as Alpha and Bata, a brother and sister who were godly sentinel beings that were temporarily scouting the land in human form. Apart from these things, I can't quite recall what was all in the game. Sadly, the only type of information I ever wrote down was a few areas within the game, two of which were islands.

In the end, evil was supposedly gone from the world, and Hiro and his friends could live on their island again in peace. Angel joined them for a while as well, in human form. This was, visibly, the finale of the series I intended to have.

Anime OQ III

Although the above sequel was meant to be the ending of the series, I felt some things like the relationship between Hiro and Amy were left unfinished. Not to mention what happens to Dark Hiro, because after you fought him he just seemed to have disappeared. So, a third game was added to the series, to truly end the story. However, it is currently unfinished - I started work on it in 2005 as well, with some minor modifications and additions in 2006. The story picks up a little later after the second game, possibly spanning from 6 months to a year later. The story opened up with Amy telling Hiro she was a cursed mage, which meant at a certain age (being her current age), she would grow weaker and weaker until she eventually dies. She tells Hiro about this privately and tells him of a way to cure her using a special ring, which then leads them to the adventures they go on. Unlike the other two games, this game only features Hiro and Amy as playable characters, as well as one or two temporary characters later on. Their journey is soon taken to a bad twist when Dark Hiro returns, sending out members of an army he built during the time the heroes spent in rest. Throughout the game you will battle various members of his army, being different types of enemies like demon soldiers and vampires. Due to all of these battles, the game is longer than the previous games, and promises to be a satisfying ending.

Recently, I've recorded the gameplay of what's been made in the game so far. This has been released with added commentary, which you can view from the links below:

Hiro No Monogatari [Hiro's Quest]

Looking back, this series - like a few others of mine - would be too good to let go to waste. So, I will be rewriting the first games story, as well as remake it as a much longer RPG. However, this is still in the "What if" stage as far as the game goes. Even so, I am currently working on details, writing down ideas and working on the plot. Check Out The Site
