This page contains information on my unreleased story "505," a story about a boy helping a computer program in a virtual world.
Preview Script
This is the script for an originally planned trailer for the story. If anyone would like to take this much and make it into a trailer, you're free to, but I put it here for anyones curiosity.
Open to a black screen for a few seconds, then fade to the living room of a house. The door opens and a teenage boy enters.
Show side-view as he walks upstairs, then switch to his bedroom door closing as he walks inside.
It fades back to a dark grey blank screen with a white frame around, it should be obvious that this is a computer screen as it switches on.
Computerized Voice on computer: "You've got mail."
Boy: *speaking sarcastically* "Yeah, yeah… What else is new."
As the clock strikes 5:05 PM, it shows a new email listed, which doesn't give a return address. The subject is "??? HELP ???". As he opens it, an audio player pops up and starts playing a fast, high pitched audio. The boy looks puzzled at it.
Fade to black and shows light blue text: "A strange message…"
It then fades to a different scene of him figuring out it was audio that was sped up and reversed. After slowing it down and reversing it, it turned out to be the voice of a boy.
Recording: "I can't say much right now, but I need your help. I'm from a place known as WoMaD.e, and I've come in search of a hero to guide me through the dangers I have brought myself into. Please, whoever may be part of the outside world, return to your inbox at 5:05, I will contact you at that time. You will know me when the time comes."
Fade to black and shows light blue text: "The fate of another world…"
It then fades in to him talking to his dad who was walking out of the bedroom.
Boy: "But dad, I—"
Dad: "There is no excuse for your grades, Alex. You're grounded, that means no computer."
His door closed. The boy Alex looked down and sighed, his eyes focused toward the computer. It showed a view from behind the computer, him standing there in the same spot.
Alex: "… I've got to find out who that person is."
Fade to black and shows light blue text: "WoMaD.e: A place that can only be accessed at one time."
It fades in to the bedroom at night, and shows Alex waking up, his alarm clock showing 5:04, indicating it's in the AM time. He switches the computer on, going to the inbox. At the moment the computers clock goes to 5:05 AM, a message window comes up.
[WoMaD.e: You made it!]
Alex types: "I'm not really supposed to be here right now… It's like 5 o'clock in the morning. Who are you?"
[WoMaD.e: I am from WoMaD.e, like I said in my last message. I need your help.]
Alex types: "Listen, you said I'd know you when the time comes. Can we get this over with?"
[WoMaD.e: I will explain it all, right now…]
Fades to black and shows light blue text: "5:05," then fades to show "S.O.S." which is identical in text.
Quickly fade with a bright flash, showing a computerized world (think TRON.) We see a war going on here with soldiers in futuristic glowing teal armor shooting at glowing red bird-like creatures and soldiers.
The following narration begins as we see one of the teal colored soldiers, a younger teen who sent out the recording to Alex.
Recording (narration): "My name is Kylabyte, but you may call me Kyle. I come from WoMaD.e, a virtual paradise hidden beneath the Internet."
Alex (narration): "The Internet?!"
Kyle (narration): "Yes. We were created by a legendary computer genius, he kept this world secret from everyone, even the outside worlds Government doesn't know we exist."
Alex (narration): "Huh.. So they don't know everything that goes on."
Kyle (narration): "Well, not exactly. One of his colleagues spilled the beans to the Government. Now they created a virus to take it down, thinking it was some kind of scheme. This virus, he's taken over our world and turned it into a place of slavery and war. We know him as Ultrabyte…"
Switch to show Alex at his computer, typing.
Alex (narration): "So, this Ultrabyte… He's gotta be taken down?"
Kyle (narration): "Yes, and I need your help to do it."
Alex (narration): "What can I do?!"
Switch to Kyl hiding behind a structure, speaking out loud as if speaking to Alex.
Kyle: "I can bring you here, I'll explain from there. But we won't have much time, the gate only opens at 5:05 Earth time.
Switch to the "505" title on a black screen.
Kyle (narration): "But you'll have only 5 minutes before you get trapped here… Timing is critical."
Fade to a blank screen, then in more blue letters; "Answer the call."
Fade to black…
Additional Information
To explain some things.
- The world called WoMaD.e is an abbreviation, but what it means is unexplained.
- The inhabitants of WoMaD.e are all humanoid in this world, as well as Ultrabyte. They live similarly to Earthlings, but with a darkly colored virtual world. They don't live with concepts like food and bathroom purpose, they live normal lives and sleep at night (whenever night may be for them.) Their usual appearance is various shades of teal, giving off a slight glow.
- Kylabyte/Kyle is an antivirus program made especially by the computer genius before Ultrabyte was created, which should explain his inability to take him down right away. His name originates from "Kilobyte," a unit of computer storage information. The nickname he uses is Kyle, which may or may not be foreshadowing of the computer genius' name.
- Ultrabyte is a somewhat cliche villain type of character who takes on many forms and creates things in his appearance, but mainly shows up in humanoid form like the worlds inhabitants. Unlike the usual inhabitants, he glows with a red tint, rather than teal. His name originates from bytes, units of computer storage information.
- The explanation for 5:05 (AM or PM) being a time for contact to the outside world is simply a glitch in the worlds programming that was overlooked. It opens access to the offline world where they can observe people from their computers. Kyle uses this to contact Alex from his computer, or any other electronic device that is connected to the Internet. The end of the script says that the portal will close after 5 minutes, if Alex is in WoMaD.e after it closes, he won't be able to escape until it opens back up, which is 12 hours of waiting time.
- WoMaD.e from a computer looks like an old video game, but if in the world itself, it all looks very real. The challenge I wanted to add to this is Alex helps Kyle figure out abilities he has as an antivirus, which would require a lot of knowledge for such things that I don't know.
- Overall, to me it sounds too Code Lyoko based, as well as heavily based on Disney's TRON, with a hint of Digimon. However, I am sort of interested in going further into the concept. Due to my current projects, I can't open any time for this, but anyone is free to help by writing or animating it as they please (under my supervision, of course.)
